The Unheard Voices: Exhibition Opening in Hamburg
On 11 October, jinn cordially invites you to the opening of the exhibition “The Unheard Voices” and a panel talk on imprisoned journalists, transnational repression and media environment in Belarus. The exhibition will be presented at Millerntorwache from 11-17 October during the Hamburg Week of Press Freedom.
The release of 25 Belarusian political prisoners on 16 September offers a moment of relief and hope. Among those freed were several journalists and media workers: Andrei Aliaksandrau, Iryna Zlobina, and Dzmitry Navazhylau from BelaPAN; Kiryl Pazniak; his daughter Yanina Pazniak; and Liudmila Chekina, director of Tut.by. They were then taken from Belarus to Lithuania. Yet 15 more journalists remain imprisoned, and independent media professionals inside and outside the country continue to face persecution and intimidation.
To give these realities a face, we warmly invite you to The Unheard Voices, an exhibition dedicated to journalists imprisoned in Belarus. Through these personal stories, the exhibition highlights the human cost of the Belarusian authorities’ sustained assault on independent media. It honours those who have been silenced, draws attention to the people behind the statistics, and sheds light on the wider consequences of political imprisonment, forced exile, and transnational repression for press freedom in Belarus and beyond.
