Drawing on Moldova's recent elections and Armenia's upcoming parliamentary elections in 2026, we will explore Russian interference and strategies for countering disinformation.

Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) has become one of the most powerful tools of Russian influence. It targets democratic processes across Europe, shapes anti-EU narratives, and undermines public trust. Can media collaboration help counter Russian disinformation? What role can Germany and the EU play in supporting independent media and young democracies against Russian interference?Using the recent elections in Moldova as a case study, the discussion will explore the strategies of Russian disinformation and the countermeasures developed by independent media through social media monitoring, fact-checking, and debunking. Looking ahead to Armenia’s parliamentary elections in June 2026, the panel will discuss potential scenarios and the needs of independent media in strengthening democratic resilience.
